Rick is a freelance art director/graphic designer based in the Sydney suburb of Coogee.

A few years back Rick played bass guitar in the highly successful band Hush - who earned 12 Gold Records. When Hush split up, Rick regained his interest in Art and studied Graphic Design at Randwick Tech. He topped the course and began a new career in Advertising. Rick is able to offer a complete professional service to assist in the growth of brands and businesses.

Here's what he had to say...

FF: How did you start out as a freelancer?

A few years ago I was offered to share office space with a writer and we worked together as a team. One of the clients was Aussie Home Loans when John Symond was just starting it and we came up with the brand positioning "We'll Save You". The client suddenly got too big for us and the rest of the story is legendary - well for the client anyway.

FF: How long have you been freelancing and why do you chose to freelance?

I've been freelancing for about 6 years and I like the freedom it gives to manage my own timeframe for working.

FF: What do you specialise in?

I'm passionate about concept & design. I'm also a cartoonist/illustrator and I teach bass guitar.

FF: What has been your career highlights?

Nothing can beat doing the Hush reformation for the Countdown Spectacular shows in 2007!

FF: Wow - that would’ve brought back some memories! Have you got any of the ol’ footage?

Yeah - it's a scream. Take a look. Click here.

FF: How does freelancing affect your lifestyle?

I'm able to mix Graphic Design with Cartoon Caricature work, Painting and Music.

FF: What other interests do you have?

I'm forming an acoustic guitar duo playing songs that will appeal to the babyboomers demographic. I also play in a rocking 50’s band - The One Eyed Cats - and we’re available for hire!

FF: How do you normally source freelance work and what do you think of the Freelance Factory concept?

Usually word of mouth and self promotion.

I think Freelance Factory is a very big (great) idea - I wish I'd thought of it.
